Life Links

Small groups came about at Cornerstone when we broke through the 200 people barrier in the early 1990's. We made a deliberate decision to not allow the size of our church affect the depth of friendship or discipleship that could happen.

Since then, the small group "movement" has become a vital part of our life together. This year, however, we are adding momentum to the movement in some ways that we hope will accelerate the depth of our church even as we grow larger.

This summer, Bonnie Anderson was hired on as a full-time Director of Groups. Bonnie has been a wonderful addition to our team. Many of you have already gotten to know her and her husband David. Both are full of life, energy, and the power of the Holy Spirit.

Bonnie is helping us redesign our groups. The first change is a change in the name. Our groups will now be called Life Groups. In addition, 3 times per year, we will have Life Link events that will serve as a connecting step between coming to weekend worship and getting connected into a Life Group.

Groups will vary from couples, mixed, mens, womens, support, prayer, and more. Even our 7-12th grade students are organized into groups. Our children also have "small group leaders" who stay with a group for 9 months. At every level, Life Groups are the heartbeat of fellowship and growth as followers of Jesus.

I wanted to tell you about the first Life Link event on September 21. We have connected it with the new building project Ground Breaking (3:00 P. M.) and church picnic (4:00-6:00 @ Dutton Shadyside Park). The Life Link event is a place for you to get connected with other people geographically or by stage of life with the intent of beginning new Life Groups.

After everyone has had a chance to get some food, Bonnie will lead those interested in the Life Link event through some introductions in a different corner of the park. Listen for the announcement. But don't put it off. The fall is the best time to "get connected."

I hope to see all of you at the event on September 21!!!
